FAQ’s

Have I missed the registration window for classes?

We take new students during the year up until the school March break.  In some instances a new student may not be included in a performance or at a Festival or Competition due to registration deadlines.

Is it possible to have a free trial class?

Yes, a trial class in up to three different classes is possible at no charge.  After creating an account in Dance Studio Pro (DSP) click on the “register” link on the left hand side, find the class you want and click on the “Schedule Trial” link right below the class name.

Can I watch my child’s dance class?

Yes, we display live feed video screens from each dance studio to our front lobby to watch your child’s dance class. We also offer an observation week at the end of the fall term where we welcome parents into the classes.

Do I need a security key fob to get into the studio?

There are times when there is no one in the office to let you in so we highly recommend getting a security key fob to gain immediate access to the studio at both street level and at the top of the stairs.  You pay a $25 deposit for the fob, keep it as long as you need it and receive $20 back when you turn it in.

How is tuition calculated?

Tuition is based on the numbers of hours per week that a student is in class.  As a student takes more classes the rate per hour decreases until it reaches a maximum tuition per month.  The rate per month remains the same whether there are 3, 4, or 5 classes taking place in a month.

Am I committed to signing up for the entire year?

Students are enrolled in a class on a month by month basis.  You are under no obligation to take classes for the entire year and may withdraw at any time.  Just let us know if writing prior to the first of the month to have tuition charges cancelled.

How and when is tuition paid?

Tuition is automatically processed through Auto-pay on the first of each month for that month. We will, in certain circumstances allow tuition to be paid by e-transfer.  Anyone wishing to withdraw from a class must inform us in writing prior to the first of the month in order to have a tuition payment cancelled. Once tuition is processed there is no refund for that month.

What do I do if my child will miss a class?

Absences are easily reported through the DSP parent portal or the DSP app.  Just click on “Attendance” on the left hand side of the home page and follow the prompts.

Do I have purchase costumes for performances?

Yes, each student needs to purchase costumes for performances.  We know this can add up and we work diligently to source quality costumes at the most affordable price.

How do I know if my child is in the appropriate class for their level of ability?

Our teachers are constantly monitoring each student to ensure they are in the right level of class.  We want to challenge but not overwhelm each student and will not hesitate to suggest a change either up or down a level to benefit each student.

What if I have concerns with a class my child is in?

The first step is to discuss your concerns with the teacher of the class. This usually resolves any issues or misunderstandings, however if it does not then the concern is brought to the department head.  If there is still no resolution then the matter is referred to the owner of the studio.  Keep in mind that during the teaching hours teachers are very busy and may not have time to address your concern right at that moment.  It is likely more beneficial to arrange a time to discuss concerns outside of teaching hours.

How important is attendance?

Regular and consistent attendance is very important for your child and for the class in general.  The curriculum is a spiral learning process where concepts and skills are built upon week to week and missing classes can hinder this learning process.  In addition, as classes prepare for performance, having a student absent leaves a gap in the choreography and makes it difficult for all students to rehearse properly.  If a student misses too many classes as a performance approaches they may be excused from the performance.

How many tickets can I get for the year end performance?

You may buy as many tickets as you wish for the year end performance.  When tickets go on sale they are purchased through the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium box office directly.  (www.wmca.ca)
